Sports Podcast

This assignment was to create a podcast in which we discussed topics and current events like a real radio station or news program. This product taught me that even just sitting and talking can be hard to do. This project was definitely one of my favorites of the year, and I think it would be both beneficial and fun to do another podcast project next year. This Podcast we discussed the Browns football and why they will be a formidable opponent next year in the NFL. we also talked about possible upsets and outcomes for the NCAA Tournament. Prior to that, we talked about soccer in Europe and players and teams with high potential. Overall, the podcast covered sports from all over the globe and all different types.

Sports Magazine

This project was to make a magazine about any topic (sports were the chosen topic). This assignment helped me realize how much work goes into making, writing, and editing a magazine. Although when reading them they seem easy enough to make, I now know that they are extremely difficult and time consuming. However, like almost everything else, once completed you feel very proud and successful. This project was second only to the project in which we had to write and film a commercial.

Physical Fitness Test

            The physical fitness test is a test of physical fitness. It is taken in gym class at School of the Arts at the beginning of school, and at the end. Many students participate, but quite a few do not enjoy the different tests in the process. Some students don’t even understand why we do it. To find out how students really feel, I asked some students.

What is the purpose of the physical fitness test? What do students think of the physical fitness test? Do they love it? Hate it? Do students think it is necessary? If so, why? I asked Gena Driscoll-Brantley for the answers.

            In the words of Gena, the physical fitness test is, “To see how physically fit students are.” This is probably correct. But what does Gena think of the fitness test?

             I asked her, and this is her answer, “It’s great. I like running laps it’s fun.” According to Gena, the physical fitness test, a burden to some, is fun to her.

Gena Driscoll-Brantley said, “yes.” When asked if she thought the physical fitness test was necessary.

When asked why, she said, “To assess peoples physical health which is important because, gym teachers need to know how fit people are.” This answer makes sense because gym teachers may want to play a sport that requires great athleticism, but if some students aren’t fit enough, the gym teachers cannot have any students play that sport in gym. For a second opinion, I asked Ethan Gresko.

            When asked what he thought of the physical fitness test, he responded, “For New York State to see how fit we are I guess and our level of fitness.” This is almost exactly the same answer that came from Gena.

This shows that the odds are they are both correct. I believe Ethan doesn’t like the physical fitness test, but to be sure, I asked him. “I personally don’t like doing it.” He responded. It seems that about half of the student body like the physical fitness test, and the other half does not like it.

 It is understandable, but what are some of the reasons some students don’t like it. I asked Ethan Gresko for the answer. He replied, “I like playing actual sports or walking. I mean it’s not a waste of time, but I don’t like it.” I think many students would agree that playing actual sports or walking would be better, but there could be worse things than the fitness test during gym class.

Also, some students might think the fitness test is unnecessary, because the teachers can just watch how good the students are when they’re playing sports and assess them that way, but the facts show that the physical fitness test is far more accurate than any such method. Ethan, a sophomore, when asked, replied, ”I don’t even know why it is necessary.”

            Overall the physical fitness test is useful, but perhaps it could be administered to the students in a more exciting way. If students were more excited about taking the physical fitness test, perhaps the average fitness rate of kids in New York State schools would increase. Which is probably the main reason the test must be taken twice every school year.

This project was to write an article about just about anything, and I chose sports. This was the first article about a topic I truly enjoyed writing about. It was about the physical fitness test required for all students who take gym class, and it taught me that almost everyone has a different opinion about everything.It also taught me that writing articles about things you take an interest in is quite easy compared to trying to write about a topic you don't truly care about.

Kodak Building

Kodak was founded in Rochester and it is a big part of the lives of many inhabitants of the city. Thousands of Rochesterians are employed at Kodak. Plus, Kodak brings tourists to Rochester each year, not to mention camera fanatics. That is why Kodak is a landmark in the city of Rochester.

The Kodak building was built in 1914, and is the world headquarters for Eastman Kodak. Today the Kodak building is the fourth tallest skyscraper in the city of Rochester standing 360 feet tall.

The 17^th-19^th floors were added, along with the spire, in order to maintain the title of tallest building in town. Which it lost again in the following years.

            The Kodak building is a skyscraper over Rochester New York, and from the top there is a great view of Frontier Field.

            Kodak is a printing and photography company that has been employing Rochesterians since 1914. It started when George Eastman thought it would be a good idea to dry to sell dry plate film to photographers

As an easier means to

developing film. The idea continuously grow and more employees were needed. With more employees, more space was needed, and so the Kodak building was built.

The Kodak Company continued to make advancements in cameras throughout the century. They made disposable cameras, digital cameras, and new pocket cameras that are very small sizes.

Kodak began struggling financially in the late 1990s and has never fully recovered. Now things are even worse for Kodak. Major reductions in staff have been made. Last year Kodak hired a specialist consultancy company to help them find decent bankruptcy options.

Kodak got into this problem not by bad trades or failing to sell merchandise, but by a fundamental change in its business that grew into a huge debt. Hopefully Kodak will rebuild and rehire. This would be great news for many people unemployed in the city of Rochester, and other cities where Kodak is stationed.

If Kodak were to close down forever, it would be a huge blow to the filmmaking industry, and the entire history of film and cameras. It would be in many peoples interest to try to help Kodak rebuild and rehire. This is because many people would be employed by a fully functioning Kodak. In the future, Kodak should be stable once again, and many more employees will be happily employed.

           

This assignment was a newspaper article about a landmark in Rochester. It taught me that writing for a newspaper can be very difficult, but it has its rewards as well. Also, once an article is completed, you feel very accomplished and proud of your work, and it is nice to share it with people who can appreciate it and admire it.

PSA

This was the product of a PSA assignment for a non profit organization called Crisis Nursery of Greater Rochester. There, children in abusive homes are protected and taken care of. By doing this project I learned that PSA's are very important, and although they aren't as entertaining or as exciting to write and film, they are just as important, if not more important, than advertisements.

Gatorade Commercial

This was a project where a partner and I had to create an advertisement for some product or other. By doing this project i learned that writing an advertisement is quite fun, and being in an advertisement can be fun as well. This was probably the funnest project I did all year in terms of writing, filming, and editing

Personal Interview

This project was an interview designed to illustrate that being interviewed and being the one interviewing someone are equally challenging tasks. I learned that editing an interview is quite hard. Furthermore, I learned that it takes time to interview, come up with interview questions, and even to be interviewed. Also, it takes time to edit an interview and come up with B-role footage. Lastly, I learned what B-role footage was and why it was necessary.
